Today, ARAPDIS hosted an insightful informative session aimed at service users and their families, focusing on legal and social protection and support mechanisms. The presentation was led by Cesc Gummà, coordinator of the ‘Prendre Part’ program at the SOM VIA Foundation.

During the event, Gummà detailed the comprehensive, multidisciplinary support provided by the foundation’s professionals to ensure the well-being and security of individuals experiencing Mental Health conditions. This support covers highly sensitive areas, including social, economic, and judicial guidance.

A key highlight of the session was the explanation of a milestone legislative transformation: the shift from the traditional concept of “guardianship” (tutela) to the modern framework of “Support Measures.” Cesc Gummà emphasized that this evolution represents a genuine paradigm shift in human rights. Unlike the replacement of legal capacity inherent in traditional guardianship, the new measures are tailored to provide the necessary guidance while fully respecting the dignity, preferences, and personal autonomy of individuals making their own life choices.

The high turnout of both family members and users provided an excellent opportunity to address specific legal questions and daily management doubts, reinforcing the importance of collaborative networking among Mental Health organizations.
